Gjirokastër, 2021
Gjirokastrës Castle (Gjirokastrës) is in southern Albania, dominating the town. Founded in the 12th century, the fortification was first modified and extended during the 1800s, then in the 1930s. The castle’s prisons housed political opponents during the communist regime.
